The Small Things

Posted by Unknown at 22:25 0 comments
Sometimes it's the small things in life that make me happy.

Exhibit A:

Today I bought a new dinner set.  I love it.  It has butterflies on it, I love butterflies.  Even better, it was on sale!

Exhibit B:

This evening I made brownies.  I love to bake, but I don't do it nearly as much as I would like.  A little bonus, I used one of my new plates to display it on.

Needless to say, I'm quite happy tonight!

Happy Birthday

This is my Nephew William

And I shamelessly stole this picture from my sister-in-law's blog!

He just turned 4.

And I missed it.

I can deal with a lot of things being so far away from my family, but this has been hard.  I have never missed his birthday before.  William is such a special little man, he is so smart and kind and has such a beautiful nature.  I have enjoyed watching him grow up, and I don't want to miss a thing.  I feel sad that I have missed his birthday.  Come to mention I am sad I missed my brother's birthday too.

Daniel's birthday is a couple of days after Will's.  I don't think I have ever missed his birthday either.

Family is so important to me and I don't like missing out on the special occasions in their lives.

I guess I took for granted living so close to my family, and now I don't have that anymore.  It isn't forever, I know that.  At the right time we will move home.  But for now this is where I am and I guess I will have to get used to missing out on the special things.

My greatest fear is that William will forget who his Aunty Kristin and Uncle Dave are.  i know he wont because he is way too smart for that, but I fear it all the same.

One blessing is that mum and dad were up that weekend so I was still able to send a present home for William and Daniel.

Happy birthday to both of you.  Love you both.

The Girls

Posted by Unknown at 18:54 0 comments
Only an hour ago I put my two best friends Amie and Jenna on a plane back to their lives 7 hours away from where I am.  We had the most fantastic weekend.  These two are so special to me, and I really am blessed to have friends like these.  It has taken me a lifetime of "best friends" to find them, but I believe that these girls will be there for every major event in my life.

They were bridesmaids at my wedding, and made the whole process the most amazing experience.

We have had so many amazing times together.  Jenna is from a family that has been connected to mine since my Dad was a young man, and Amie has been there for the last few years.

It was easy to spend time together when we were all living in the one city, now we all live in different ones, and it means so much to me that they would fly up to spend the weekend with me.  We haven't all been together in same place since my wedding in January, but we certainly made up for lost time.

THE STOCKING SAGA
Warning: Don't put knee high stockings on with skinny jeans if you intend to change your mind about the shoes you will wear!

It was a mission - needless to say we did not try this approach with the second stocking!

Girls lunch out

Jenna's egg had an accident

We found this more than amusing

I'm going to miss them, but this weekend should carry me through to the next.  And then there are the weekly phone catch ups.

Introductions

So here I begin...again.

I have had many unsuccessful blogs in the past, mostly because I easily become bored and want to try something new.  This time my something new has brought me full circle back to Blogger.

Some introductions are in order, not for those who know me, but for those who just may happen to stop by.

My name is Kristin, I'm married to David.  Like every good wife I'm slightly biased when I say that he is the most amazing husband anyone could wish for.  I'm also well aware that having only been married for six months, I'm still in the "honeymoon" period.

Straight after the wedding David and I packed up and moved 7 hours away from our family and friends to Northern Queensland because of an awesome job opportunity for me.  I am thankful every day that David agreed to come on this adventure with me, because I know what a sacrifice this has been for him.

I am a teacher, it's a job that I love.  I have a passion for seeing kids reach their potential.  I don't like to give up on kids.  I don't care if they are academic or not, each one is unique and has the potential to become someone great.  Most of the time they just need someone to believe in them, and if that is all I do then I believe that I have at least planted the seed for their success.

I love to sing, and I'm quite good at it.

I love photography, it's a little side project for me.

I am about to start a Grad Dip in Psychology, I'm doing it because there are so many kids suffering from depression, anorexia, low self-esteem etc. and I want to know how to best reach them.

That's really about it.  I live a simple life, and I'm still learning about life, myself, and the person I really want to be.
